Come Back to Yourself

Last weekend, I spent the weekend learning so many lessons about myself and life. On Wednesday, I wrote about the lessons the Colorado River gave me. Today, I want to tell you I got confirmation about my coaching career.

When I discovered the word koru, I immediately felt drawn to it. I feel that the symbolism of new life, growth and strength is so spot on for what I want people to get out of coaching with me. The inner coil, representing the return back to the point of origin, meant to me that you always come back to yourself. You always have the answer you are looking for. I feel that it is a good tagline and one that I truly believe in. I just didn’t realize, until recently, how appropriate it was for me and my coaching style.

Over the weekend, I spoke to a couple of different friends. Like friends do, we talked about a lot of different topics. I like to ask questions about what’s happening in people’s lives and try to help them solve any problems they might be encountering. If they want my help.

I was standing in the pool and chatting with a friend about some conflict she is having in her life. I, of course, had my opinion on what she should do. But, I knew it wasn’t my place to give my opinion. I knew I just needed to listen. We talked about her current situation in addition to her past. After a bit of talking, I began to point out repetitive patterns I saw in her life. I pointed out how many times she gave someone a second, third, and forth chance. All with the same outcome. After a while, she was able to make these connections even before I could point them out. There were times during our conversation that I felt like I was projecting my thoughts about what she should do onto her. I kept apologizing until she reassured me that she didn’t feel like I was imposing my thoughts on her. She told me that I was just reiterating what she was saying and helping her to realize what she wanted.

That’s when I lit up with happiness as I realized that my tag line was more than a catchy phrase. It was the TRUTH!

Who will always know what you want? YOU!

Who will always know what is best for you? YOU!

Who will be your best advocate? YOU!

That sounds pretty simple doesn’t it? It’s not.

I know I am not the only person that struggles with making decisions. Even if I know what I want, I often hesitate if I think it will upset others. I know I am not the only person who doesn’t want to give up on people “too early” no matter how many times I have been disappointed previously.

Why do we not believe in ourselves? It can be due to a variety of reasons. If you have trouble believing in yourself, drop me a line and let me help you come back to yourself.

Believe me, it is so freeing and empowering to have control of your own life!

Do this resonate with you? I would love to hear from you. Drop me a line on social media or email Steph@KoruLifeCoaching.com
